1.
you draw the stigmata onto my hand and tell me you see me the way that i am i'll take the cup that you have in your hand this water, your blood, until i understand all of these shadows are new in the light that you've brought with your fingers, your hands, and your eyes my flesh, it is lace, i am curtains at night this glass, it is stained, it is thin, it is right i collect arrows inside of my chest i will not fall lightly, i'll die for my sins before you leave will you tend to these ribs? if you pull out these arrows, leave holes for the wind
2.
ardor 03:07
i was baptized in water by my father and my mother i do not remember but i know my head went under i can taste the salt, feel it drying on my eyes doused in holy water, hands reaching for the light but i'm drawn to fire, continuous and holy you are fire and you have taught me through heat and through light i exist beyond my body
3.
ashes 02:48
i know that wood cannot burn very long without tinder and flint to bring flames to the log i used to think i was grounded and strong and my body would burn and then i would be done but i know i am made of wax my body will burn till im dead
4.
salt 04:43
in the morning, i am born, into water and salt and by the evening, i am dust i always return to where i've come from i hold many hands, i'm grasping them hard i am a product of trauma i feel the water, the salt on my jaw i'm going under, my hands loosen up if i come back no one will recognize me dead things keep floating isn't that what baptism is for? my body in water, till i am reborn
5.
i am firm. 05:59
i held a candle in my palm transfixed by the flame and surrounded by moths and their wings caught fire and the air lit up and they fell to my feet when their wings were gone i saw their bodies become the wick and i felt my body burning just like it and i saw your body struggling but i was warmer than i'd ever been then the wax dripped down onto my hands, leaving callouses so i put out the flame with my own spit it is dark again, i hear crickets it was holy when it was you were fire, light shed on in the water, i see moths they're still floating, i thank god
6.
wood and water my father and my mother breathing is getting harder im floating, you're getting farther i left when you were hurting you couldn't talk and they were yelling i still smell smoke when i am breathing all i have now is ash, so i let it fill me is that my house burning? is this rebirth, or am i dying? i can taste salt, my mother is crying the fire is warm, the water is scalding
7.
i have lived i have lived by this ocean since i was born and id give all i have back to the brackish water i have swam i have swam against this current naked and cold and id drown in this mouth just to swim for a moment longer i just need a moment longer i grew up where the river and the ocean like to argue they'll sweep you up and next thing you know you're dying too i've watched you drown in too many arms you thought wanted to hold you i need to leave before i am surrounded too
